§ 2-624. Duties.

  • The department of neighborhoods is charged with the following duties:

    (1)

    Through the Mayor's Citizens' Assistance Office, a division of the department, to help citizens access city services and to serve as a liaison between citizens of the city and city departments;

    (2)

    Through the Mayor's Office On Disabilities, a division of the department, to fulfill the purposes and the duties prescribed by sections 2-389 and 2-390 of this Code;

    (3)

    Through the Mayor's Office of Education Initiatives, a division of the department, to enhance education opportunities for students of all ages, both inside and beyond traditional classrooms;

    (4)

    Through the Mayor's Office of Gang Prevention, a division of the department, to assist families, young adults, and communities in reducing the frequency and the effects of juvenile delinquency in general and gang participation in particular;

    (5)

    Through the Mayor's Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, a division of the department, to connect immigrants and refugees with government, private enterprise, and not-for-profit resources intended to stabilize lives, preserve families, promote personal responsibility, and provide a path to citizenship or other legal residency, all as permitted by law;

    (6)

    Through the Inspections and Public Service division of the department, to reduce substandard living conditions in the city through the enforcement of articles V and IX through XIV of chapter 10 of this Code, to the extent and in the manner prescribed by the said articles;

    (7)

    Through the Mayor's Volunteer Initiatives Program, a division of the department, to promote and to facilitate volunteer public service; and

    (8)

    To perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the mayor to enhance the quality of residential life in the city.
